The Freaks & Outliers: NL East Pitchers

In the National East we are once again going to be seeing representatives on either end of the height, weight, and BMI spectrum.

Tallest

Eury Perez is a long 6’8″. Just look at him at this critical part of the delivery. If you looked up the term “get long” in a pitching coaches dictionary you would see this picture.

I’d love to see his antropemtrics to see just how “long” he really is out there. His extension is

Eury is a pretty lean 6’8″ at only 220 lbs. But he is really young and will undoubtedly pack on some pounds with MLB-caliber post-gam spreads and qualified professionals training him in the weight room. So it could get scarier if his BMI climbs a bit higher from its current 24.1.

Shortest

Kirby Yates is 5’10”. While this is low on the height spectrum he is not the shortest “Kirby” to play in the bigs. That honor would go to Kirby Puckett who was listed at 5’9″ and 220 lbs during his playing days. This translates to a BMI of 32.5 which qualifies him as obese.

Pretty good vertical jump for an obese guy if you ask me.

Kirby Yates on the other hand is listed at 210 lbs which gives him a BMI of 30.1.

Here he is in action displaying the scary “inverted W”.

Lightest

There are a number of feathery pitchers in NL East but the cake, or lack of cake in this case, goes to Huascar Brazoban at 155 lbs.

Heaviest

This is what makes this position so wild in my eyes. The heavist pitcher in the NL East is Joe Jiminzez who came over from the Detroit TIgers. He is the same height as Huascar at 6’3″ yet he is 122 lbs heavier.

What’s even cazier is that Huascar throws harder than Jiminzez, on average.

Low & High BMI

Not so surprisingly, the lightest and heavist pitchers in NL East are the proud owners of the lowest and highest BMI’s aswell.

Huascar’s combination of being 6’3″ and 155 lbs produces a BMI of 19.4.

While Joe Jiminez’s 277 lbs on the same 6’3″ frame gives him a score of 34.1.
